1. Introduction to Articles
Articles are small words used before nouns to define their definiteness. There are two types:
Indefinite Articles (A, An)
Definite Article (The)
Used for non-specific things.
Used for specific or previously mentioned things.
2. When to Use "A" and "An"
Rules for "A":
Rules for "An":
✅ Used before singular, countable nouns that begin with a consonant sound.
✅ Used before singular, countable nouns that begin with a vowel sound (a, e, i, o, u).
"I saw a dog."
"He ate an apple."
"She has a university degree." (Sounds like "yoo-ni-ver-si-ty")
"She is an honest woman." (Silent "h" → sounds like "onest")
When NOT to Use "A/An":
❌ Before uncountable nouns (e.g., water, information).
❌ Before plural nouns (e.g., "a cats" ❌ → "cats" ✅).
3. When to Use "The"
Rules for "The":
✅ When talking about something specific or already mentioned.
"I saw a cat. The cat was black."
