INSTRUCTIONS
On safety regulations for work
in physics laboratories
PHYSICS 1
“Mechanics, molecular physics”
Laboratory room F203

2. 1. Safety regulations for work in laboratory “Mechanics, molecular physics”

1. SAFETY REGULATIONS FOR WORK IN
LABORATORY “MECHANICS, MOLECULAR PHYSICS”
1.1. Laboratory lessons should be conducted only in the presence of instructor.
1.2. When working in laboratory one should be aware of danger of electric shock and to be extremely
careful. Untidiness, carelessness, inattention, lack of knowledge of equipment can result in accident.
1.3. All electric equipment operating at voltage equal or higher than 36 V should have documentation
with electric scheme, performance attributes and assigned inventory numbers.
1.4. All control switches, knobs and handles of electric equipment should have marks indicating their
operation (“Turn on”,” Turn off” and so no).
1.5. When carrying out laboratory works on mechanics student should be careful and aware of danger
of injury
a) of eyes in the process of shot of the bullet when finding speed of the bullet in laboratory work
“Determination of bullet speed by ballistic method” in the case of violation of safety requirements.
b) When studying physical and simple pendulum angle of displacement should not exceed 5-60.
c) be careful when dealing with springs in the process of study of Hook’s law.

3. 2. Safety requirements before the start of work

2.1. Before the start of laboratory work check availability of
all required elements of the equipment used in your work. Be
sure that all equipment is not connected to the mains, and all
sockets, outlets, switches and plugs are in working order.
2.2. If you reveal that something is in a bad order, for example
bared wires, you should inform instructor.

4. 3. Safety requirement in the process of work

3.1. Power on the setup and be sure that it is possible to carry out measurement within
the given ranges of values of physical quantities to be measured.
3.2. If a pointer of some meter goes beyond the scale range, one should turn off the
apparatus and examine connection of the meters, decrease the voltage, increase the
resistance or switch the meter to another scale range.
3.3. All switching should be made when voltage source is turned off.
3.4. In the process of taking reading be careful. Do not touch bared wires and alive
current-carrying parts.
3.5. If you reveal exceeding heating of the scheme, its malfunction, or feel smell of
smoke immediately switch off power supply.
3.6. Do not leave experimental setup without control in the process of experiment.
