TTEx. 2 Copy the word map in your notebook. In a minute add as many
words as you can think of. Compare with your partner.
Use the words to describe your house to your partner.
I live in a cottage in the suburbs. There are
4 rooms in it: a living room, three
bedrooms, a kitchen, a bathroom and a big
hall. There is also a big porch where we like
to sit in the evenings and watch the sky and
stars. We have a lot of modern appliances
such as washing machine, dish washer, a
robot vacuum cleaner, etc. It helps to keep
a house clean and tidy.

TTEx. 8 You are going to give a talk about life in space. You will have to start
in 1.5 minutes and speak for not more than 2 minutes. Remember to say:
• how lack of gravity affects life in space
• what things astronauts do in their free time
• whether you would like to live in space or not
You have to talk continuously.

TTEx. 8 You are going to give a talk about life in space. You will have to start
in 1.5 minutes and speak for not more than 2 minutes. Remember to say:
Life in space means living in zero gravity. This means you can't shower or wash your hair in the
normal way. You use a special vacuum hose to wash with and comb a no-rinse shampoo into
your hair. You have to clean the spacecraft every day because bacteria grow quickly in zero
gravity. And when you go to bed, you don't really go to bed. You sleep strapped against the
wall instead! The other important ways lack of gravity affects astronauts concern food and
exercise. They eat food from a tray strapped to their legs and salt and pepper come in liquid
form. It's also necessary for them to work out every day because otherwise their muscles
would go soft. In their free time, astronauts like to read, watch films and send emails. Maybe
they consider exercise as a free-time activity, too. They also take lots of photos of the Earth
from space.
I would like to live in space but not for long. I would really like to see how the Earth looks from
up there. And it would be interesting to experience floating in zero gravity. But I'd be very
happy to come back down to Earth!
12.
TTEx. 9 Portfolio: It's the year 3050 and a group of teens who were born on a
space station are coming to visit Earth. Write a leaflet giving instructions
about how to eat, sleep, wash, exercise, do chores and spend free time in
a place with gravity.
When eating, your food doesn't float away so
don't strap your tray to your legs! Simply sit down
at a table and put your food...
When sleeping, don’t strap yourself into a
sleeping bag. It won’t be possible to sleep on the
wall, use a bed. It’s comfortable.
Don’t forget to wash the dishes, and don’t put
dirty dishes into a plastic bag. It’s not rubbish. We
use the same plates every time, and we should do
the washing up.
Don’t sit at home all the time, go outside, enjoy
fresh air and watch the sky and stars from the
Earth.
