Online Meetings: 3 Problems, 3 Fixes (My Personal System)
Last month I had a day with back-to-back online meetings. By
the end, I felt exhausted, slightly irritated, and worst of all
unsure what we had actually agreed on. It hit me: the problem
meetings simply need clearer rules than face-to-face ones. So I
tested a few habits, kept what worked, and turned it into my
personal system.
In a real room, you can sense when someone wants to speak.
Online, those signals get messy: people talk over each other, or
the quieter ones disappear.
My fix: I use a visible speaking order. At the start, the host names
has a quick extra point, they write it in the chat instead of
interrupting. It sounds strict, but it actually makes the
conversation calmer and fairer.
Problem #2: Topic drift
discussing a totally different issue, and the main goal is forgotten.
My fix:

Problem #3: Screen fatigue and constant self-awareness

movement break every 20 minutes. Surprisingly, productivity goes up when

week. Small rules can create a big difference and you might finally finish a
call knowing exactly what happened.
