German potato salad
Warm, rich, and surprisingly homey, the German
potato salad has long been a true gastronomic
symbol of Germany. Tourists often start their
exploration of the country with beer and
sausages, and end it with this salad, which has
firmly established itself as a must-try dish in
German cuisine.
It is prepared in every region, and almost every
household has its own signature version,

Beer soup
Beer soup (in German: Biersuppe, in Alsatian: Biersupp,
in Czech: Pivní polévka) is a soup that is usually
prepared based on a thickener and with the addition of
beer. In medieval Europe, it was served for breakfast,
sometimes with bread.
In various variations of this recipe, starch from potatoes
is used as a thickener. The Sorbian version is sweet,
with the addition of cream and raisins.

Schweinhax
Pork knuckle is a part of the pig's leg located above the
ankle and below the fleshy part of the ham. It is particularly
popular in Bavaria as Schweinshaxn ([ˈʃvaɪnshaksn̩]
pronunciation) or Sauhax(n) .In some regions of Germany,
this dish is known as Eisbein, where the pork knuckle is
marinated and usually slightly boiled.
The most popular side dishes are potatoes and cabbage. In
Bavarian cuisine, this dish is traditionally served with
potato dumplings and red cabbage, or with sauerkraut and
potatoes.

Stollen
A traditional German Christmas pastry.
Stollen is made with a special heavy
dough based on natural yeast. The large
amount of butter used to coat the outside
of the cake makes it soft and tender.

Beer
According the Reinheitsgebot (German beer
purity law), only water, hops, yeast and malt are
permitted as ingredients in its production.Beers
not exclusively using barley-malt, such as
wheat beer, must be top-fermented.
In 2023, Germany ranked fourth in beer exports
and in 2020, Germany ranked third in Europe in
terms of per-capita beer consumption, trailing
behind the Czech Republic and Austria.
