3. A definition of “distopia”

A dystopia ("bad place") is an imagined world or society in which
people lead wretched, dehumanized, fearful lives. It is an imagined
place in which everything is unpleasant or bad. Dystopia is widely
seen as the opposite of utopia – a concept coined in 1516 to
describe an ideal society.

4. We

The first real dystopia is a “We”. It was written by Yevgeny Zamyatin in 1920.
The events of Zamyatin's dystopia unfold in the distant future. Its main character is
an outstanding mathematician who, like all his contemporaries, has no name — he
only has a "number" D-503. In this society, the order is dictated by a Single State,
which conducts propaganda through a State Newspaper. All houses and
apartments have glass walls, and all people have the same clothes. Those who
decide to violate the established canons are executed by turning into a puddle of
water...

5. 1984

This novel was written by George Orwell in 1949.
The totalitarian party state of Oceania. There are no concepts of "individuality",
"love" and "mystery" here. Big Brother is watching from numerous posters here,
watching every action and thought. The Ministry of Truth is engaged in falsification
of facts, and the Ministry of Love is engaged in the destruction of thought
criminals. But suddenly one little man, hiding from the cameras in a tiny niche of
his apartment, sits down to write a diary…

6. Fahrenheit 451

Was written in 1953. Bradbury's philosophical dystopia paints a bleak picture of
the development of a post-industrial society. This is the world of the future, in
which all written publications are destroyed by firefighters, and book storage is
prosecuted, interactive television successfully serves to fool everyone, psychiatry
resolutely deals with one rare dissidents, and an electric dog goes hunting for
others dissidents.
