LEGO Smart Brick

2.

It was created in Denmark (with
the company's headquarters
located in Billund) and was
unveiled in January 2026 at the
Consumer Electronics Show (CES)

3.

It was introduced by the LEGO
Group's Vice President Tom
Donaldson, who is the Head of the
Creative Play Lab and originally from
the UK

4.

The
The core
core idea
idea behind
behind it
it is
is to
to
transform classic, static LEGO
building sets into
interactive educational toys that
react to
to user
user actions,
actions, light,
light, and
and
react

5.

Hidden inside its casing, the brick houses a special
microcontroller, various sensors, a battery, and a
wireless charging coil. Its primary interaction tool is
built-in reader. When the brick is placed near specific
LEGO characters or objects, it instantly recognizes
them. Additionally, its sensors detect when the mode
is tilted, lifted, or shaken.

6.

Advantages:
• The smart brick can identify specific characters within a build and
activate unique interactive scenarios.
• Children are empowered to create programmable and responsive
structures, fostering their interest in robotics, physics, and
programming.
Disadvantages:
• The bricks come with a non-replaceable battery that supports wireless
charging, but they can only actively participate in play scenarios for a
mere 45 minutes per charge.
• The brick is designed to be virtually impossible to disassemble without
causing damage, which makes any repairs or servicing impossible.
• The sets come at a high cost.
