2. Maslenitsa

• Maslenitsa is a traditional Russian holiday celebrated during the week
before Lent. Its purpose is to bid farewell to winter and welcome
spring. The main symbols of Maslenitsa are pancakes, which resemble
the sun in shape and color, and an effigy burned at the end of the
holiday to drive away winter and hasten the arrival of spring.

3. What else does he do on this day?

• At this time, people organize mass celebrations, visit friends, ride
down slides, participate in folk amusements and ask each other for
forgiveness on the last day of the holiday (Forgiveness Sunday) in
order to enter Lent with a pure soul.

4. Why Maslenitsa?

• Maslenitsa is a holiday from my childhood where I often walked with
my parents and I have very warm memories of it.
