2. What is ContentReader PDF

ContentReader PDF (developed by Content AI) is a major Russian
multi-functional PDF editor and optical character recognition (OCR)
software. It serves as a direct, official replacement for ABBYY
FineReader PDF and Adobe Acrobat in the Russian market. The
product is developed by the former Russian division of ABBYY (now
operating as Content AI)
The software is fully compliant with import substitution policies,
included in the Unified Registry of Russian Software, and certified as an
AI product.

3. Features

-Intelligent OCR Engine: Powered by an internal OCR engine that boasts up to
99.8% recognition accuracy across more than 200 languages. It automatically
straightens, crops, and enhances bad scans or photos.
-Advanced PDF Editing: Allows direct paragraph, sentence, and layout editing
within existing digital or scanned PDFs without requiring format conversion.
-Format Conversion: Instantly converts non-editable PDF files and image scans into
fully flexible formats like Microsoft Word (DOCX), Excel (XLSX), PPTX, or HTML.
-Document Comparison (Corporate): Scans two separate versions of a document
(e.g., a raw Word file vs. a scanned signed copy in PDF) to highlight any
discrepancies or unauthorized layout edits.
-Security & Forms: Supports electronic digital signatures, password protection, and
automated permanent redaction of confidential metadata or text.

4. Licensing

We have only 20 competitive licenses deployed on the server.
Which means, only 20 employees can use it at the same time and we
can’t make it available for every employee.
That is why, if you will receive requests for ContentReader PDF
software, you should first recommend to user try using alternative and
free solutions: LibreOffice and PDFTools portal

5. LibreOffice

LibreOffice is the world's most popular free, open-source office suite. It
serves as the primary free alternative to Microsoft Office and
ContentReader PDF for basic document management. It is highly
compatible across multiple operating systems, including Linux,
Windows, and macOS.
While PDF tools are built into all applications within the suite, the
designated PDF editor is LibreOffice Draw (a vector graphics tool).

6. LibreOffice Draw Features

When you open a PDF file in LibreOffice, it automatically loads into Draw. Inside, every element of the
document—whether it is a line of text, an image, or a table—becomes an individual, editable object.
-Direct Text Editing: You can click on any line of text to change words, fix typos, or modify fonts.
-Page Management: You can easily delete unwanted pages, reorder them by dragging and dropping, or
insert new pages from other files.
-Graphics Manipulation: You can move, delete, replace, or resize images, logos, and diagrams directly
inside the PDF.
-Annotations and Drawing: You can add arrows, geometric shapes, callouts, text blocks, and comments
over the existing document.
-Interactive Form Creation: Draw allows you to build PDF files from scratch containing fillable text fields,
checkboxes, and buttons.
-Digital Signatures: You can sign your document using an existing digital certificate right before saving.

7. LibreOffice Draw Limitations

Because Draw was originally designed as a graphics tool, it has several drawbacks
when handling complex PDF files:
-Performance with Long Documents: Draw loads all pages into RAM as graphical
slides. Opening a 500-page book can severely slow down your computer.
-Formatting Shifts: If a PDF uses rare fonts that are not installed on your PC,
LibreOffice will substitute them. This can cause the text alignment and layout to
break.
-No Built-in OCR: Unlike ContentReader PDF, LibreOffice does not have its own
Optical Character Recognition engine. It cannot convert scanned documents or
photos into editable text; they will remain static images.

This application does not save, store, or retain any files you use or upload; they are
processed temporarily and then immediately discarded.

If you will receive requests on PDF editor software and user will insist that LibreOffice is
not sufficient for him/her
1. Get Business reason from user why he/she needs another application instead of
LibreOffice;
2. Get approval from user's manager, that this Business reason is valid;
3. Document users laptop serial number, Business reason and manager approval in work
notes (Text of business reason, either email or screenshot of the email of the approval
(Check if approver is indeed the direct manager of the requestor))

4. Gather approval from TSD manager ( in case of absence IT Operations Manager
approval) using GLPI Approvals module
1) In ticket go to "Approvals" tab
2) Press "Send an approval request"
3) In "Approver" select "User"
4) In dropdown list choose TSD manager (in case of absence IT Operations Manager) by
name
5) Add license request details and business reason in "Comment" field
6) Press "Add" button to send approval request.

5. If approval is gathered, contact ContentReader champion for license assignment.
(Currently, there are 2 CR Champions: Maksim Shepelin and Alexander Vikulov)
6. After license is assigned, inform user on how to install using end-user guide.
If user requires assistance, help user install it by following end-user guide and close ticket
after.
If not assistance required, close the ticket as informative with confirmation
