wagons, trams, and agricultural machinery.
Demand for cars was growing from the army, government agencies,
and wealthy private buyers, including due to the high price of foreign
cars.
Therefore, in 1908, the RBVZ management decided to create an
automobile department and begin mass production.

Racing and rallying
Andrey Nagel is one of the most famous automotive enthusiasts of that
time:
On the new (not run-in) Russo-Balt, he won rally «St. Petersburg-KievMoscow», traveled all over Europe and climbed volcano Vesuvius(firstly
in the world) in 1910!
Together with his partner Vadim Mikhailov, Nagel took part in the first
Rally Monte-Carlo (December 31, 1911) from Petersburg to Monaco!
The crew covered a huge distance and arrived at the finish line first out
of 83 participants, although they took 9th place in the overall
standings.

Russo-Balt and the Yakovlev-Frese car became the
foundation for future national automotive projects,
showing that it is possible to create and produce
