3. Type and size/ Origin

Salt
evaporation
It is an endorheic salt lake about sixty-seven kilometres
long. Its water is about ten times saltier than ocean
water. Its shores are more than four hundred metres
below sea level.
The Dead Sea formed millions of years ago when the
Earth’s crust moved. Water filled a deep valley. The hot,
dry climate made some of the water evaporate, leaving
salt and minerals behind. Over time, the lake became
very salty.

4. Water composition

The water contains salts and minerals, including
magnesium, calcium, and potassium. Its high salinity
makes people float easily, but swimmers should be
careful not to get the water in their eyes.
