• In Essentuki, in Frunze
Street, you can see the
beautiful monument near a
small house. In this
dwelling a Russian writer,
novelist, poet and journalist
- Andrew Terentevich Gubin
lived.

• He was born in 1927 in
the stanitsa of
Essentukskaya, to a
family of Cossacks. His
Father- Terence A.
Gubin, and the mother
-Maria V. Gubin (maden
name Tristan).

• His childhood was during the
war and it wasn’t easy for him.
He started working at 15. He
changed a lot of professions,
was a herdsman, blacksmith,
fireman, stoker on a steam
train, a ship machinist first
class, a longshoreman.

• Also he lived in
Moscow, working as a
stoker in the hotel
"Europe" at night. He
spent his days
reading books in the
Lenin’s library.

• For the first time he
began to publish his
works in 1951 in the
local newspaper
"Iskra". He also worked
as a journalist and
proofreader.

In 1953 he enrolled in the
screenwriting department RSUC
( Russian State University of
Cinematography).
He graduated from it in 1959 with
the qualification of the
playwriter. After that he was
engaged only in literary
activities. In 1969 he was
admitted to
the Union of Soviet Writers.

• The last years of his life the
writer spent in Moscow. He
died on 6 of March in 1992. He
was buried in Essentuki. In
1995 he became
(posthumously) the winner of
the literary Sholokhov award.

• There is an exposition
dedicated to the writer in
Essentuki regional museum .
His wife - Gubin Margarita
Nikolaevna gave exhibits for
it. She was a journalist.

• After the death of Andrei Gubin
his wife set a goal - to publish
unreleased writer’s books. She
founded and headed the
publishing house "Wolf’s
Milk." Unfortunately, her tragic
death didn’t allow to continue
publishing work.

• Andrei Gubin’s Creativity
inextricably linked to
Stavropol. During his life
writer lived in Moscow, the
Baltic States, Central Asia, the
Far East, but Stavropol kray
always remained his “home
land."

• The first poetry publication
was in the newspaper "Iskra",
where he continued to publish
his works in the next few
years.

• And in 1968, with the
assistance of Vsevolod
Kochetov, the main work of
Andrei Gubin was published
in October - the novel "Wolf
milk."

• AndrewTerentevich worked
on his novel for 20 years.
The story is spaned for
more than a century of life
of the Terek Cossacks. The
language of the novel is
very original and poetic.

translated into German
and published in Berlin
World Literature
Publishing House in
1971.
