detective is Sherlock Holmes.

This character was created by Arthur Conan Doyle who was a
doctor by profession but his hobby was to write detective stories
about Sherlock Holmes. Between 1997 and 1895 Arthur Conan
Doyle wrote twenty-six stories about Sherlock Holmes.
