In 1735, Chicherin
was enrolled in the
Semenov regiment
and by 1761 he had
reached the rank of
second major of the
guard. The young
Chicherin was a
quick-witted officer
who could show
himself to his
superiors.

5. Brief biography about the life of D.I. Chicherina
On the very day of the death of Empress Elizabeth PetrovnaChicherin received his resignation. By decree of the Peter III,
he was ordered to live in the family village of Ilinskoye, and
the return to the service was forbidden. But immediately
upon accession to the throne, Catherine II was already on
April 4, 1763. Denis Ivanovich was returned to government
service with the rank of prime minister of the guard, and on
April 10 he was appointed Siberian governor.
On arrival in Tobolsk, D.I. Chicherin launched vigorous
activity. He was involved in almost all the affairs of managing
a gigantic land. So, not content with the governor’s duties,
he took over the affairs of the Tobolsk police chief. In the
fund of the Tobolsk police station there were many
Chicherin’s personal orders.
He died in 1785 in his family village.
В самый день смерти императрицы Елизаветы Петровны Чичерин получил отставку. По указу Петра III ему
было велено жить в родовом селе Ильинском, и запрещено возвращение на службу. Но сразу при восшествии
на престол Екатерина II уже 4 апреля 1763 г. Денис Иванович был возвращен на государственную службу с
присвоением чина премьер-майора гвардии, а 10 апреля назначен сибирским губернатором.
По прибытии в Тобольск Д.И. Чичерин развернул кипучую деятельность. Он входил практически во все дела по
управлению гигантским краем. Так, не довольствуясь губернаторскими обязанностями, он брал на себя и дела
тобольского полицмейстера. В фонде Тобольской полицмейстерской конторы сохранилось много
собственноручных орденов Чичерина.
Чичерин скончался в 1785 году в своем родовом имении.

spread to Siberia.
In Tobolsk, Denis Ivanovich opened a geodesic
school. He opened the first drugstore, began
vaccination of the local population. In 1776, a stone

для ссыльных и преступников. Чичерин
заботился о развитии различных ремесел, до
того в Тобольске неизвестных. В 1776 г.
открыл банк с капиталом в 1 миллион рублей
ассигнациями.

Contemporaries of Denis Ivanovich described him as follows:Chicherin "... was of medium height, had a beautiful face, was
strongly- built; although quick-tempered, not for a long time, but
he had a kind heart, he himself was looking for cases to be useful
to those whom he insulted with his unbridled passion. As a boss,
he was stern, he could not stand tale-tellers, he did his best to
destroy them, but he never did any harm to others. Denis
Ivanovich lived a luxurious life in the Siberian governorship. On
holidays, he gave solemn dinners and balls; he received students’
"gratuations": speeches and poems in the Russian and Latin
languages. Chicherin was a deeply religious man.

облике и образе жизни в Тобольске.
Чичерин « …был росту среднего,
красив лицом, телосложения
крепкого; хотя вспыльчив до
бесконечности, однако горячность
его была непродолжительна, и, имея
сердце доброе, сам изыскивал
случаи быть полезен тем, которых
оскорблял своею необузданною
горячностью. Как начальник был он
строг, ябедников терпеть не мог;
всячески старался их искоренить, но
никогда никому зла не делал. Денис
Иванович на сибирском
губернаторстве жил пышно. В
праздничные дни давал
торжественные обеды и балы;
принимал от воспитанников
семинарии «гратуляции»: речи и
стихи на русском и латинском
языках. Чичерин был человеком
глубоко религиозным.

Денис Иванович на
сибирском губернаторстве
пользовался властью, почти,
ничем неограниченной.
Императрица доверяла ему
полностью и сама поощряла
его к инициативе в решении
тех или иных вопросов
управления. Долгое время
она состояла с Чичериным в
личной переписке.
