2. Objective

To learn and to talk about one of the
attractions of the Republic of Mari El is the
Castle Sheremetyeva

3. History

• The castle is located in the village Yurino. In the
past, the village Yurino was called Arkhangelsk.
History has not kept the date of creation Yurino.
• Since the 17th century the village passed from
one ruler to another, because
nobody wanted to live in the
small village. Finally in 1812 the
village Yurino bought Vasily
Sergeyevich Sheremet'ev.

The construction of the stone castle was
started in 1874 by Vasily Petrovich Sheremetyev,
who was the grandson of Vasily Sergeyevich.
Castle was built three generations
Sheremetievs. Seven architects joined Gothic,
Baroque and oriental style.

Around the castle were ever green pine and
Russian birches, farm buildings, a park, fruit
garden, a greenhouse, an aviary for wild
animals, artificial ponds and others.

In our time the castle remained
marble columns, bars on the
windows made of ceramics,
mosaic stained glass and many
other unique design elements

Architectural proud of that time
was the glass dome of the winter
garden, where there were the royal
palm and a variety of unusual
flowers that were brought
from different parts of the
world.

Luxury interior decoration of the castle and the
scope of landscaping homestead Sheremetev

to stay in the hotel, which is located inside the
building, feeling the spirit of the nineteenth
century in the palace rooms with historical décor.

10. The legend

According to legend, a ghost is wandering the
halls in the form of the land girl Palasha. Graf
Sheremetyev disposed the personal lives of
their serfs. Often liked master woman was taken
straight from a wedding in his estate. Palasha
denied the right to barin the wedding night and
hit him on the head with a candlestick. Palasha
was buried alive for it in the basement of the
castle. Local guides say that the human remains
were indeed found during the reconstruction of
the basement.
