Ludwig Lazar
Zamenhof was born
on the 15 th of
December in 1859, in
Bialystok, Russian
Empire. He was an
ophthalmologist and
a linguist.

He was known
as the creator of
Esperanto -
the most
successful of the
constructed
international
languages.

Also known by the
pseudonym Doctor
Esperanto, under
which he published
in 1887 his work
"International
Language", which
includes a
description of the
language and a
textbook.

This is the first and
only monument in
Ukraine to Ludwig
Zamenhof, the
creator of the
Esperanto language.

It located in Odessa
in the courtyard at
Deribasovskaya, 3. It
installed in 1959. The
sculptor is Nikolai
Blazhkov.

Monuments and memorial signs to
Zamenhof have been erected in
several cities around the world.
Among them:
• Bust in Bialystok;
• Bust in Veisiejai (Lithuania);
• Bust in Vienna
