The Scottish novelist,
poet, essayist and travel
writer, Robert Louis
Stevenson was born on
November 13, 1850 in
Edinburgh, Scotland.
Robert Louis Stevenson
died at the age of 44 a
few hours after suffering
a brain hemorrhage on
December 3, 1894.

At the age of 17 Stevenson entered
Edinburgh University to study engineering
Although, he gave up
his father's profession.

law.But he did not
like law and never
practiced it. He
understood, the only
thing he wanted to do
was writing.

He is best known for his evergreen
works «Treasure Island», «Kidnapped»,
and «The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and

in France, Stevenson
visited the village of
Barbizon, where young
artists gathered. There
he met Frances Matilda
Osborne. Fanny was 10
years older than Lewis.
