6. The plot of the book
Book One begins in June of 1925, at a beachfronthotel on the French Riviera, near the city of Cannes.
Mrs. Speers and her daughter, Rosemary Hoyt, arrive on holiday . She
quickly makes friends with Dick and Nicole Diver. Encouraged by her
mother, the young actress finds herself falling in love with Dick.
Chapters 1-25 tell the love story of Dick and Rosemary.
