INTRODUCTIONPipeline compressors are installed for the purpose
of efficiently pumping natural gas from the
wellhead to a power plant or to the location of
consumption area in a major city.
A natural gas compression station is an industrial
facility that stabilizes the pressure and flow rate
of gases within a pipeline network at optimal
levels required to obtain the maximum carrying
capacity
A gas compressor is a mechanical device
that increases the pressure of a gas by
reducing its volume. Compression of a gas
naturally increases its temperature. When the
gas is air, the machine is called an air
compressor.

THE PURPOSE OF GAS COMPRESSOR5.
HOW NATURAL GAS COMPRESSORS WORKNatural Gas Compressors work by mechanically increasing gas pressure in stages (or
steps) until it reaches the desired delivery point. The starting pressure and the
desired ending pressure will determine how many stages a compressor will have.
WHY DO WE COMPRESS GAS?
Gas compression is used in every sector of our industry when conditions do
not normally exist for various processes to take place.
Producers compress natural gas for a number of reasons.
Upstream—producers often use compression to inject gas back into the well to
aid in lifting liquids to the surface
Midstream—In the midstream, compression is used to move gas from one
location to the next through miles of pipe.
Downstream—In the downstream sector, it aids in the removal of liquids to
meet consumer and safety requirements.

A rotary screw compressor is a type of air compressor that uses two rotatingscrews (also known as rotors) to produce compressed air. Rotary screw air
compressors are clean, quiet and more efficient than other compressor types.
They are also supremely reliable, even when used continuously.
The sliding vane compressor is a rotary
type compressor, meaning a rotating
device is used to compress gas. Vanes on
the rotor trap gas between the rotor and
cylinder walls. This gas is compressed and
released into the discharge line.
A liquid piston eliminates gas
leakage and replaces sliding seal
friction with viscous friction. The
liquid can also be used as a
medium to carry heat into and out
of the compression chamber.

DYNAMIC COMPRESSORSWhat is the difference between centrifugal and axial?
An axial fan is one in which the extracted air is forced to move parallel to the shaft
about which the blades rotate. Centrifugal fans extract air at right angles to the intake
of the fan, and spin the air outwards to the outlet by deflection and centrifugal force.
