St. Petersburg State Polytechnic University

manors and palaces of St. Petersburg. The creation of polytechnic universities in
Russia is one of the achievements of the "Witte times". The style of performance
is neoclassicism .The initiator of its creation was the Minister of Finance S. Y.
Witte, his deputy V. I. Kovalevsky and scientist D. I. Mendeleev.The purpose of
creating such an educational institution was the need for "a form of polytechnic
institutes that would contain various departments of human knowledge, but
would have an organization not of technical schools, but of universities, that is,
an organization that is most capable of developing young people, giving them
universal knowledge."Initially, it was intended for the reproduction of the
managerial, economic, scientific and technical elite. Classes officially began on
October 2, 1902.
