2.

Pavel Sukhoi is rightfully considered a
star of Belarusian technical science. He
went down in history as a brilliant
designer. While studying in At the
Imperial School, he was engaged in the
development of an aircraft, met and
communicated with pilots whose stories
about the flight infinitely inspired the
young designer. During the Great
Patriotic War under his the leadership
created an armored Su-6 attack aircraft.
After the war, a well-known scientist of
Belarus engaged in developments in the
field of jet 7 aviation: under his
leadership, a line of Su combat aircraft
was created.

For outstanding achievements in the field of
aviation science and technology, he was
twice awarded the title of Hero of Socialist
Labor, was awarded the Stalin and Lenin
Prizes, the first winner of the A.N. Tupolev
Medal (posthumously). Since 1995, the
Gomel State Technical University has been
named after the famous designer Pavel
Osipovich Sukhoi.

SU-6. HISTORY OF CREATION
Armored ground attack aircraft, overshadowed by the Il-2. Su-6 was more advanced
than the Stormovik, its air-cooled engine did not require armoring and provided more
power. But Il-2 production was already 'in full steam', and switching to radically new
aircraft could be harmful for production rate. Importantly, the Su-6 inherited chronic
problem of the Su-4 - it relied on experimental engines.
Development started in 1939. Second Su-6-2 (improved) version was built in 1942, and
the last one (Su-6-3), powered by liquid-cooled 2000hp AM-42 started flight testing
early in 1944.

x RS/RBS-132 rockets

• Rear gunner has restrictive firing
angles
• Defensive armament doesn't keep up
with the offensive armament of
opposing aircraft
• Bad sustained turn rate
• Bad climb-rate compared to fighters
• Uncontrollable at high speeds and
bad redline speeds
