General TipsDo not open the test paper until you are allowed to do so
Read the title and any headings first. Make predictions.
Activate your knowledge of English, and your experience, background knowledge,
and imagination as well.
Look over the questions quickly (content and organization)
Read a passage at a normal speed. Don’t get stuck on words and places you don’t
understand.
When you answer, don’t spend too much time on the answer. Guess and go on. You
can come back to the point when you are done with all the tasks.
Don’t spend more than 20 min on each passage.
The last passage is longer and more complex than the first two, so remember to
save time for it.
Write your answers in your answer sheet as you read. You won’t be given any time
to transfer.

• Identify the purpose of the passage. Does the passage present:
o a problem and a solution;
o one side of the argument;
o cause and effect;

• Read the passage quickly to locate a number,
date, name, place, etc.
