Time Clauses
Придаточные предложения времени вводятся при
помощи слов и выражений:
while, before, after, until/till, as,
when, whenever, once, as soon as,
as long as, by the time, the moment
that, hardly … when, no sooner …
than, unless, if, suppose/supposing,
in case
+
V(s), (don’t V/doesn’t V) – present
simple
Or
Have /has V3 – present perfect

e.g. Sharon will give us
money after she gets paid.
After I have cleaned my
room, I will watch TV.
By the time we get there the
film will have started.
Call me the moment you
arrive back home.

Clauses of purpose
Придаточные предложения цели вводятся при
помощи: 1) to V/ in order to V/ so as to V
(чтобы)
e.g. He is running in order to catch the
bus.
2) So that + can/ will V (present or
future)
She will at the office late so that she
will finish the report.
So that + could/ would V (past)
Joe joined a gym so that he could
become fitter.

3) With the view to V ing /
with the aim of V ing – с
целью, чтобы
e. g. We are trying to
save some money with
the view to buying a
house.

Clauses of result
Придаточные предложения следствия
вводятся при помощи: 1) such/so … that
(такой … что), and as result, and as a
consequence, consequently, so, therefore,
etc.
e.g. It hadn’t rained for two months and as
a result the country was facing a water
shortage.
2) Such a/an + прилагательное +
исчисляемое существительное в ед. ч. + that
+ придаточное предложение
e.g. She is such a good teacher that all her
students love her.

3) Such + прилагательное + исчисляемое
существительное во мн. ч. + that +
придаточное предложение
e.g. They’re such nice people that everybody likes
them.
4) Such + a lot of + существительное + that +
придаточное предложение
e.g. He had such a lot of work to do that he had to
cancel our dinner plans.
5) So + прилагательное/ наречие +that +
придаточное предложение
e.g. They were talking so loudly that the librarian
asked them to leave the library.

6) so/few/little/ many/much + существительное
+ that = придаточное предложение
e.g. There was so much traffic on the streets that
it took us an hour to drive home.
7) So + прилагательное + a/an +
существительное + that + придаточное
предложение
e.g. It is so popular a museum that it’s always
crowded.
8) As a result/therefore/consequently/so + that +
придаточное предложение
e.g. We couldn’t find a room to book in that hotel
and therefore we had to look elsewhere.
