Прикметники формуються додаванням суфіксів
до дієслова:
Прикментики з закінченням ING
використовується для характеристики людини,
речі або ситуації , і змінюють їх стан:
surprising – дивовижнийб несподіваний (змушує нас
здивуватися)
frightening – лякаючий(змушує нас злякатися)
shocking – шокуючий (шокує нас)
Прикментики з закінченням ED вказують на
емоції та почуття, але ці прикметники ніколи не
використовуються для опису ситуацій або
речей. Крім того, почуття, викликані
прикметниками із закінченням –ed, зазвичай
відносно швидкоплинні
surprised – здивований (побачив щось дивне )
frightened – наляканий (побачув щось лякаюче)
shocked – шокований (побачив щось шокуюче)

HOW DO YOU FEEL IN IT?
You have been studying all night for an important exam
Ти всю ніч готувався до важливого іспиту
You feel exhausted, tired, motivated to pass
змучений, стомлений, у тебе є мотивація скласти іспит
You bungee jumped for the first time yesterday
Вчора ти вперше стрибнув на тарзанці
You feel excited, frightened, amused
схвильований, наляканий, здивований
You didn’t win a competition you took part in
Ти не переміг у змаганні , в якому приймав участь
You feel disappointed, demotivated, surprised
розчарований, демотивований, здивований
We are talking about HOW we felt in each situation.

NOW, MOVE ON TO THE SITUATIONS.
WHAT EACH SITUATION WAS LIKE?
Studying all night for an important exam is tiring, exhausting,
motivating
Всю ніч готуватися до важливого іспиту це втомлює,
виснажує, спонукає
Bungee jumping is exciting, frightening, amusing
Банджі-джампінг захоплюючий, лякаючий, кумедний
Not winning a competition is disappointing, demotivating, surprising
Не виграти змагання розчаровує, демотивує, дивує
We are talking about situations/things/people
that MAKE US FEEL a certain way.

BORED vs BORING.
You are watching a really long film where
nothing happens. The film is BORING.
How do you feel? You feel BORED.
You meet your neighbor and she tells you
the same story about her cat all over again.
The neighbor is a BORING person.
You feel BORED.
Something / someone boring makes you
feel bored.
You are bored because something /
someone is boring.
Compare the difference:
1. My girlfriend is bored. (My girlfriend feels
bored)
2. My girlfriend is boring. - (My girlfriend is a
boring person)

Adjective pairs can describe ongoing and complete processes
1. Adjectives ending -ed or -ing can describe processes
We had fried eggs for breakfast.
This relates to a process which we can express with the verb to fry
2. Complete and ongoing processes
We drank melted snow when we were hiking in the mountains.
Verb: melt. The process is complete.
Floods caused by melting snow have been causing delays on the roads.
Verb: melt. The process is ongoing.
There was a delicious smell of frying bacon. Ongoing
We had fried rice for lunch. Complete

Adjective or verb?
-ed form is an adjective or it is a verb.
With the adjectives, it is often possible to add the adverb
VERY, but not with the verbs:
I have been VERY interested in travel all my life.
Travel has always interested me.
We have been VERY surprised by the change in her behavior.
The change in her behavior has surprised everybody.
-ing form is an adjective or it is a verb in Present Continuous
I am charming – adjective
I am charming someone now.-verb.

ED / ING ADJECTIVES
Choose correct form
Our visit to Paris was an amazing / amazed experience.
I get really annoying / annoyed when I have to wait in line.
It is impossible to get boring / bored in London.
Nightlife in Ibiza is quite exciting / excited.
I am a little confusing / confused about this city map.
Change the words in CAPITALS so that they fit the gaps.
