Trafalgar Square is one of the most famous sights of London.
It is connected with the name of one of the most prominent
people of the English nation.Trafalgar Square is a public place
and tourist attraction in the heart of London, in Westminster.

4. The Battle of Trafalgar. Admiral Nelson’s last battle.

• The name commemorates the Battle of Trafalgar, a British
naval victory of the Napoleonic Wars over France and Spain
which took place on 21 October 1805 off the coast of Cape
Trafalgar.

5. Admiral Horatio Nelson, Nelson's Column

Nelson's Column is in the centre of the square, flanked by
fountains and guarded by four monumental bronze lions. The
lions were cast in bronze melted down from the cannons
aboard French and Spanish ships that had taken part in the
battle.

On the north side of the square is the National Gallery. Founded in 1824,
it houses a collection of over 2,300 paintings dating from the mid-13th
century to 1900.
The National Gallery is home for the masterpieces of Turner, Botticelli,
van Gogh, Monet, Cézanne, Renoir and others.

Queen Victoria started the tradition of a Christmas tree in
Trafalgar Square in 1841.
After World War II it is a present from the people of Norway.
The Mayor of Oslo usually lights the Christmas tree at the
Christmas ceremony.
