Around Us

2.

Introduction
•Automation is the use of technology to perform
tasks with minimal human input.
•Automated systems are everywhere — in our
schools, homes, and workplaces. They make
life easier, save time, and improve safety.
•In this presentation, I will show three examples
of automated systems I observed:
• In my college
• In my house
•At the supermarket

Automatic sliding doors use infrared or ultrasonic
sensors to detect people nearby.
The sensor sends out invisible light or sound waves
and measures the reflection.
When someone approaches, the sensor detects
movement and triggers a motor that opens the doors.
After a few seconds with no movement, the doors
close automatically.

Heat-Based Smoke Detector
This detector uses a temperature sensor such as a
thermistor to monitor the air.
When the temperature rises too fast or above a set
point, it triggers an alarm.
Turnstile with Face ID
This system uses a camera sensor and infrared
sensor to recognize a person’s face.
The infrared sensor detects someone looking at the
camera, and the camera captures the face image.
The system compares it with the database — if it
matches, it activates the motor and unlocks the
turnstile.
After the person passes, it locks automatically.

Gas Sensor in Boiler
Room
A semiconductor gas sensor detects leaks of gases like methane or carbon
monoxide.
When gas touches the heated sensor surface, its electrical resistance
changes, and the system triggers an

Conclusion
Automated systems are an essential part of modern life.
They make our environments smarter, safer, and more efficient.
By improving sensor accuracy and sustainability, we can build systems
that work better for people and the planet.
