Gorillaz (IPA: [ɡəˈrɪləz]) is a British music and virtual project created in 1998 by Damon Albarn and
Jamie Hewlett. The project includes an extensive fictional universe surrounding the "virtual band"
itself, which consists of four animated members: 2D (lead vocals, keyboards), Murdoch Nickalls
(bass guitar, drum machine), Noodle (guitar, melodies, vocals), and Russell Hobbs (drums,
percussion). Their fictional universe is showcased on the band's website and in their music videos,
as well as in various other media such as short animations. The music is the result of collaboration
between various musicians and Albarn, who is the only consistent contributor to the music, which
showcases influences from genres such as alternative, rock, hip-hop, electronic, dub, and
pop[2][3]
