Read the text and do the tasks below.
Dima and Anya were sitting in the school library. Anya
was looking at her smartphone and looked very
worried.
“Dima, look at this!” she said. “I just read a post on a
social network. It says that if teenagers sleep less than
eight hours, their hair will turn blue! We
must share this information with everyone in our
class!”
Dima smiled and looked at the screen. “Anya, calm down. Let’s look at the source of this article.
Who wrote it?” Anya checked the page. “It doesn’t say.
“Exactly,” Dima answered. “This is a great example of fake news. In the modern world, anyone can
write anything on the Internet. It is very important to use reliable websites, like official
educational platforms or digital encyclopedias. You can’t believe every online post.”
“But there were a lot of comments under the post!” Anya said.
“Comments don’t make the information true. My advice is to limit your screen time and spend
more time reading real books or talking to people offline. Let’s check this fact about blue hair in a
real science magazine.”
Ten minutes later, Anya laughed. “You were right, Dima. My hair won’t change colour. I will be
more careful with online news from now on.”
