Slide 2. Introduction
Computer security is the practice of
protecting computer systems,
networks, and data from unauthorized
access and attacks. The topic is highly
relevant: in 2025, the number of
cyberattacks on organizations grew by
47%, reaching an average of 1925
attacks per week. The presentation's
goals are to explain key threats,
protection methods, and the user's
role; tasks include analyzing concepts,
examples, and trends.

3.

Slide 3. Key Concepts
Computer security focuses on protecting IT systems from threats like
malware and DoS attacks. Cybersecurity protects the digital space,
networks, and data from cyber threats, including phishing and
ransomware. Information security is broader: it ensures
confidentiality, integrity, and availability of information regardless of
form (digital or physical).

4.

Slide 4. Differences and Overlaps
• Computer security overlaps with cybersecurity in system protection,
but cybersecurity is broader—covering cyberspace. Information
security encompasses all three, adding protection from any data
threats. Overlaps: all use encryption and MFA to prevent leaks.

5.

Slide 5. Types of Threats
•Viruses and trojans:
malicious software
masquerading as legitimate.
•Phishing: deception to steal
data via fake emails.
•DDoS attacks:
overwhelming servers with
traffic.
•Social engineering:
manipulating people for
access

6.

Slide 6. Protection Methods: Antivirus and
Firewalls
Antivirus software detects and
removes viruses, trojans, and
ransomware. Firewalls block
unauthorized traffic and attacks.
These tools form the basis of
fundamental protection

7.

Slide 7. Protection Methods:
Encryption and MFA
• Encryption protects data from
reading without a key. Multi-factor
authentication (MFA) requires
multiple verifications, reducing risks
from stolen passwords. Combining
them strengthens security.

8.

Slide 8. Password
Management
•Password
management uses
managers to generate
complex passwords
and store them.
Combine letters,
numbers, and
symbols. This prevents
breaches from weak
passwords.

Slide 9. Example 1: WannaCry
In 2017, the WannaCry
ransomware exploited
EternalBlue, infecting 200,000
systems in 150 countries.
Consequences: hospital
shutdowns, millions in losses.
Lessons: timely patches,
layered security, and incident
recovery.
