4. MONUMENTS TO THE FALLEN IN WORLD WAR I (list of the World Heritage)
In the first list of the WorldHeritage in the year 2014 there were
a series of Memorial, burial places,
related to the first world war, located
on the Belgian territory in the
provinces of West Flanders, Liege,
Hainaut, Namur.

soldiers, about their attitude to death, to
fight. This free-standing tombs, old
military cemetery of erected
spontaneously, temporarily, cemeteries,

7. 105 objects have been selected
A total of 105 objects have been selected for including in the list ofbattlefields and monuments to those who died in the first world in
Belgium. Selection was based on several items : the characteristics of
the object (magnitude of the graves, the size and shape of tombstones
and Memorial structures, their architectural value); on location in
relation to surrounding landscapes and scenery, as well as engineering
structures preserved from the time of the first World War (trenches,
trenches and other military objects); on the historical value of the
place; on the international aspect (places with other States, the
national composition of the graves); the so-called not material aspect
(sites of special memory or represent works of art).
8. Memorial in Nivport
Monument to King Albert I is theWar Memorial, which is located
in the town of Nivport, Belgium.
It is located near the old town, on
the right bank of the river Yser.
The monument was erected in the
year 1938 in honor of King Albert
I and Belgian troops who
participated in the first world war.
The architect of the Memorial
became Julien de Ridder.
9. German military cemetery and a crypt-Tower in Diksmuide
At a military cemetery more than25 000 German soldiers were
buried . From the monuments
after world wars, survived a few,
namely, the Beguinage and the
belfry with a Carillon of 30 bells.
Along with those they are under
the protection of UNESCO. The
15th century town hall and a few
other sights after the war were
rebuilt.

проходили во Фландрии, северном регионе Бельгии, например, знаменитая Битва при Пашендейле 1917 г.,
в которой погибло более полумиллиона солдат с
обеих сторон, или битвы под Ипром . Территории
провинций Восточная и Западная Фландрия, где
происходили эти события, принято называть "Поля
Фландрии"; именно здесь разворачивались многие
ключевые события сражений Западного фронта.
«Поля Фландрии" - перевод английского выражения
Flanders Fields, прекрасно знакомого любому
англоязычному человеку. Оно вошло в английский
язык благодаря знаменитому стихотворению "In
Flanders Fields" Джона МакКрея, канадского
военного врача, воевавшего на Западном фронте.
Стихотворение было написано МакКреем в 1915 г.
после похорон его друга, погибшего во Второй битве
за Ипрский выступ, и сразу же приобрело огромную
популярность.
