Leslie Hornby was born in the suburbs of London, in a
family of average means. At the age of 16, she met with a
fashionable London hairstylist Leonardo, and became the
face of his beauty. The first photo shoot of Leslie with a
short haircut was done by Barry Lategan. He made a
memorable nickname - Twiggy.

In 1966, Twiggy has been
recognized «Daily Express»
as face-year version. Soon
she became the face of
the fashion in London
1960, and the icon of the
subculture mod. Her best
shot photographers were
Helmut Newton and Cecil
Beaton. Some fashion
historians, say that Twiggy
can be called the first
supermodel.
Millions of women all
throw the world lose
weight, making different
diets ("Twiggy syndrome"),
copied make-up and
extremely short haircut. It
has become a hallmark of
this decade.
