The United Nations is an international
organization founded in 1945. It is currently
made up of 193 Member States.

In 1992, April 15 by the Decree of the
President of Kazakhstan was appointed the
first Permanent Representative of the
Republic of Kazakhstan to the United Nations
(A.Arystanbekova). In 1992, June 5 the
President signed a decree on the
establishment of the Permanent Mission of
the Republic of Kazakhstan to the United
Nations.

In 1993, February 16 a representative office
was opened in Kazakhstan. Since 2010,
December 12 Stephen Tull has been Resident
Coordinator.

Kazakhstan is a member of almost all
UN agencies, two regional
commissions (UNECE and ESCAP),
periodically elected a member of a
number of the functional commissions
of ECOSOC, as well as a member of
the Executive Boards of UNICEF,
UNESCO, UN-Women. From 2013 to
2015 Kazakhstan is a member of the
Human Rights Council of the UN.
