Working principles:
Thermal power station's works like this:
Heat released by burning fuel which produces working fluid
steam from water. Generated steam runs the turbine coupled
to a generator which produces electrical energy in Thermal
Power Plants.

1. Boiler:
Here Coal is burning which means that the heat is producing that heats used to heat the water and the
water changes its property and then it sends to superheater, here it becomes steam with high heated.
2. Condenser:
The condenser presents here to cool the working fluid or we can say to remove the heat from the water.
3. Economizer:
When water pressure gets increased there some amount of heat generates and that heat sends from the
economizer to the boiler.
4. Turbine:
The main function of the turbine is that when steam strikes to the turbine the blade rotates and it converts the Heat energy
into mechanical energy.
5. Generator
In Thermal Power Plant station generator uses to generate electricity to rotate turbine.
The generator, typically about 30 feet long and 12 feet in diameter, contains a stationary stator and a spinning rotor, each containing miles of
heavy copper conductor. There is generally no permanent magnet, thus preventing black starts. In operation it generates up to 21,000 amperes at
24,000 volts as it spins at either 3,000 or 3,600 rpm, synchronized to the power grid.
6. Cooling tower
A cooling tower is a heat rejection device that rejects waste heat to the atmosphere through the
cooling of a coolant stream, usually a water stream to a lower temperature.

Advantages:
Thermal power station has less initial
cost as compared to hydro-electric
generating station.
It requires less space as compared to
the hydro-electric power station.
The fuel cost is less as compared to
gas.
Hung amount of power can be
generated by TPS.
The cost of generation is less as
compared to diesel power station.
Disadvantages:
The running cost of thermal power
station is more as compared to
hydro power station.
It pollutes the atmosphere due to
production of large amount of
smoke and fumes.
Maintenance cost is more.
Skilled persons are required for
erecting and maintaining the power
station.
Land requirement is more for
storage of coal and ash.
