Valentine’s Day is :
• celebrated on 14th of February;
• traditional day for lovers in many countries;
• many people give cards, letters, flowers,
chocolate or presents to their spouse or
partner.

Story no. 1 : Lupercalia
• old Roman celebration
• on 15th of February
• Lupercus: god of crops and fertility

• Women put their names on a paper in a big
jar
• Each men drew a paper and spend the festival
dancing with the woman he picked

Story no. 2 : Saint Valentin
• in the 3rd century A.D. the Roman Emperor
Claudius II forbade marriages
• Valentine was a Christian priest
that performed marriages in secret
• for this reason he was caught and imprisoned

• while in prison he fell in love with the jailer’s
blind daughter
• with his abilities he cured her blindness
• before dying he sent her a letter signed
‘From your Valentine’
• he died on February 14th

(the shape comes from the silphium plant’s,
