INTRO
• The dental bridge is a custom-made tooth/teeth that is used to replace and fill the gap of a
missing tooth.
• In short, the bridge is attached to two sides of the missing tooth by making the real teeth
looks like a base for it.

TYPES OF DENTAL BRIDGES
For dental bridge we have four
types:
Traditional bridges
Cantilever bridges
Adhesive bridge
Bridges supported by implants

TRADITIONAL BRIDGES
• This is the most common type of dental bridges.
• This type of bridges usually made of porcelain, other dental bridges are made from
ceramics , which are a combination of porcelain and other materials that are similar in
appearance, and the last type is zircon which is made from zirconium oxide, a strong, safe
dental ceramic.
• In this type of bridges there is a single fake tooth, also called a pontic, which is held in
place by a dental crown on each side.

TRADITIONAL BRIDGES
• While we are putting the dental bridge, we need
to remove a certain amount of the enamel on the
both sides of the missing teeth in order to form a
base for the bridge, the amount that must be
removed is the same for the teeth.
• This type of bridges are usually used to restore
posterior teeth such as premolars and molars.

CANTILEVER BRIDGES
• For this type of bridges, the patient must have one natural tooth next to the missing tooth.
• We must form the shape of the base on the tooth next to the missing tooth, after that we
will put the bridge on it.
• We use this type to restore anterior teeth.
• Cantilever bridges are not strong enough to support the molars (back teeth).

ADHESIVE BRIDGE
• A.K.A Maryland bridges
• This type of bridges is less deep comparing to traditional bridges.
• They consist of a pontic (fake tooth) that is supported by a metal frame.
• They have "wings" that attach to adjacent teeth, which keeps the bridge stable.
• Maryland dental bridges are used to restore incisors (front teeth).
• They are rarely used to restore missing molars or canines; because Maryland bridges can
easily become come loose.

BRIDGES SUPPORTED BY IMPLANTS
• These are bridges that are fully supported by dental implants.
• This type is commonly used to restore back teeth such as premolars and molars.
• Implant bridges are ideal for patients who have at least three missing teeth (posterior
molars) in a row.

DENTAL BRIDGE PROCEDURE
• In two steps:
• In the first step all tooth enamel and any additional tooth structure is removed to fit the
crown, then impressions are made and sent to the dental laboratory where the dental
bridge is created.
• Until the permeant bridge is being ready, we will place a temporary bridge over the newly
formed. Now, if the surrounding teeth are not strong enough to support the bridge, dental
implants will be placed in the jawbone.

DENTAL BRIDGE PROCEDURE
• Now in the second step:
• First, we will remove the temporary bridge and clean the teeth.
• If there is any tenderness or pain, a local anesthetic will be injected before the temporary
bridge is removed.
• We will also take x-rays of the bridge to make sure it fits properly, then the bridge and teeth
are glued together using Permanent cement.
