Georgy Konstantinovich Zhukov (1896-1974) was a Soviet military and political
figure, one of the most important commanders and generals of the Great Patriotic
War.
Zhukov was born on 1 December 1896 in Moscow province. In 1915 he enlisted in
the army and took part in the First World War. During the Civil War, Zhukov served
in the Red Army and earned a reputation as an experienced and successful
commander in the field.

During World War II, Zhukov held many high command
positions and took part in many important battles. He
commanded the Central Front in the Battle of Moscow
and led Soviet troops to victory in the Battle of
Stalingrad. In 1944, he was appointed commander-inchief of the Soviet Army and took a key role in
liberating Europe from Nazi occupation.
After the war, Zhukov continued to serve in the army
and held senior positions in military command.
However, in 1957 he was dismissed as Minister of
Defence for political reasons and retired.

After his retirement, Zhukov remained an
influential figure in Soviet society and wrote
memoirs about his participation in the Great
Patriotic War. He was also active in the political
life of the country and often voiced his opinion
on various domestic and foreign issues.
Georgy Konstantinovich Zhukov died on 18 June
1974 in Moscow. He left his mark on history as
one of the chief strategists and commanders of
the Second World War and as an important
figure in Soviet history.
