Introduction
It is an IV infusion over a short period of time.
Advantages of intermittent IV infusion:
1. The risk of incompatibility is reduced.
2. Suitable for some drugs like aminoglycoside to avoid drug
toxicity.
3. The risk of fluid overload is decreased.

Introduction
Following repeated administration of these short IV infusion, the
drug will accumulate in the body until steady state is achieved.
At steady state, the maximum and minimum plasma
concentration will be constant if the dose, infusion duration,
dosing interval are kept constant.
Ko = infusion rate = dose/t’ (mg/hr.)

At steady state
Repeated administration of intermittent IV infusion will
lead to the accumulation in body until reaching steady
state. At steady state, we will have Cssmax (peak) after
the end of infusion at time t’, and Cssmin(trough) just
before the drug infusion.
