CELL DIVISION

9. CELL DIVISION

Each cell has chromosomes in
its nucleus. Chromosomes
carry the information which
determines the characteristics
of the species. Cells of each
species have a fixed number
of chromosomes.
For example, human cell- 46
chromosomes, while domestic
cats' cells- 38.

10. CELL DIVISION

Cell division is the splitting of a parent cell into
two identical daughter cells. Each daughter has
exactly the same number of chromosomes in its
nucleus as its parent cell had.

11. CELL DIVISION

The disease causes by the uncontrolled cell
division is called cancer. Cancer cells form a mass
called tumour. Cancer can spread to another body
area if its cell breaks off from a tumour.

12. THE ROLE OF CELL DIVISION

Multicellular organisms
As а young multicellular organism grоws celI division
provides new cells. Some cells continue to divide
throughout life. Examples include cells in skin and in
bone mаrrоw.
