A Ferris wheel located on the south coast of
the River Thames. It was opened in March
2000. It has with become one of London's
most popular tourist sight!

History before the building.
At the end of the 20th century, London needed a new symbol that would attract tourists.
The place where the London Eye is now located
used to be empty and was an ordinary urban
landscape.
The idea was proposed by architects David Marks and Julian Hope.

Building and opening.
Building it started in 1998 and
took 2 years.
At the time of its opening, the London Eye
was the tallest Ferris wheel in the world,
with a height of 135 meters.
The official opening took place on March 9,
2000, and it became an icon of the city.

• The London Eye is used as a tourist attraction, giving a great view of the city.
More than 3.5 million people visit it every year.

Each of the 32 cabins can accommodate up to 25
people.
