Hardware and Software: An Introduction to IT
1. Information technology
By me2. Hardware and Software
3. Hardware
Devise – an electronic piece oftechnology
Feature – a distinctive part of a
devise like it size and colour
Hardware – the physical parts of
a devise that you can see and
touch
Function – a way in which a
devise can be used
Hardware- is all the physical
part of a devise, both external
and internal
4. Features and function od a devices
• Feature is a distinctive part of a devise, it like acharacteristic of a devise.
Features and
function od a
devices
Phone have features such as:
t o u c h s c re e n
m e ta l ca s e
c a m e ra
• Function of a device means how it is used and what
is used for.
For example, phone's function is:
m a k e c a lls
p la y g a m e s
u s e s o c ia l m e d ia
5. Portability and performance
• Portability of a device – is how easy it is to carry aroundOften its small devises such as:
• Laptop
Mouse
Headphones
• Performance – how well a devise perform its intended purpose
• Application – Software that is designed to perform a specific
task
6. Storage
– a piece of hardware that is used to store dataSolid state storage – a type of storage device that stores on silicon chips
Magnetic storage – a type of storage device that uses electromagnets to store data
Storage
Data mining – the process of analyzing large databases to find patterns and
threads
Data – text, values symbols images and sound in their raw form
Supercomputer – a computer with a very high level of performance
7. Raid
• RAID storage - is when multiplestorage devises are combined to act
like they a single large storage
devise.
Raid
• RAID 1 – storage is used for
processing data.
• All others storage devices in the
RAID setup are then set to be mirror
of the first storage.
8. User interface
User interface – the part of adevise that person uses to
interact with the devise.
User interface have to be as
simpe as possible so that
person able to easily use the
devise.
9. Connectivity
• Connectivity – the ability to connect devise to other devises• There is 2 type of connection wired and wireless
• The wired connection is the method of connecting devises using cables.
• And wireless connection is the method of connecting using radio waves.
• Bluetooth chip – a piece of hardware in a devise that allow it to have a
• Bluetooth connection
• The WNIC is the piece of hardware in a device that allows it to
• connect to wireless connection
• There are now a lot of USB cables available, for example USB 3 is faster
• than USB 2 it can improve the performance and increase speed.
10. Energy consumption
MEDIA SUPPORT• It important to consider how much we are
Storage media – the type of storage that can
be used for a devise for example the device
• consuming – it helps planet and nature
can have a memory card slot or a USB port
that allow a USB drive to be connected
It helps to get more storage, or
you can store your images there
You can use CD ROM drives or DVD there also
memory card such as SD card
11. Expansion Capability
• Ability to add or upgrade parts of a device.• Allows you to increase storage space when you need more.
• Can save money because you don't need to buy a new
device.
• Makes the device more useful in the future as your needs
increase.
12. Security features
• Data needs protection – people and businesses store confidential data so devices need strongsecurity
• Passwords are weak – software can guess text passwords by trying thousands of combinations
• Biometric device – security device that uses a person's biometrical data as the “passwords’’ instead
of text
• Biological data – unique physical data like fingerprints iris face of voice
• Hard to fake – biological data is very difficult to replicate making biometrical more secure that text
passwords
