Koichiro MATSUURA
• The first Asian Director-General of UNESCO;
• Specialist in various topics from Environment to World language
and Natural heritage;
• Participated in “UNESCO Children's Performing Arts Festival in East
Asia” which was held in Gwangju;
• Mr. Matsura was the one who suggested to organize the World
Culture Forum 2015 in Gwangju.

• 1988-’90: Director-General, Economic Cooperation Bureau, Ministry of Foreign Affairs;
• 1992-’94: Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs (Sherpa for Japan at the G-7 Summit);
• 1998-’99: Chairperson, World Heritage Committee of UNESCO;
• 1999-2009: UNESCO Director-General.
