Present tenses

2. Present Simple

We use the Present Simple for (употребляется, когда речь
идет о):
Daily routines (Повседневные и регулярные действия)
They start work at 9 a.m.
Repeated actions (Повторяющие действия)
He goes to the gym every Sunday
Habits (Привычки)
She likes milk for breakfast
Timetables/Programmes (future meaning) – расписаниях/программах (в том числе в
значении запланированного будущего)
The museums open at 10 a.m.
Permanent states (Неизменных привычных состояниях)
He lives in Moscow
In exclamatory sentences (Восклицательных предложениях)
Here comes Jane!

3. Present Simple

Time expressions used with the Present Simple
(Указатели времени используемые с Present
Simple): every hour/day/week/month…, always, often,
usually, sometimes, never etc.
Adverbs of frequency used before the main verb but
after auxiliary verbs (Наречия частотности
употребляются перед смысловым глаголом, но
после вспомогательного глагола)

4. Present Continuous

We use the Present Continuous for (употребляется, когда
речь идет о):
Actions happening now, at the moment of speaking (Действиях, происходящих
сейчас, в момент речи)
We are watching TV now
Fixed arrangement in the near future, especially when we know the time and the place
(Запланированных действиях в будущем, особенно, когда известно время и место
действия)
I am going shopping with Tania this afternoon
Temporary actions (Временных ситуациях)
I am preparing for my exams this month
Changing or developing situations (Меняющихся или развивающихся ситуациях)
Her Spanish is improving
Frequently repeated actions with always/constantly/continually expressing annoyance
or criticism (С такими наречиями как always/constantly/continually для выражения
раздражения, по поводу часто повторяющихся действий)
He is always watching TV

5. Present Continuous

Time expressions: now, at the moment, at present,
nowadays, today, these days, tomorrow, etc.

6. Present Perfect

We use Present Perfect for (употребляется когда речь идет о):
Actions which started in the past and continue up to the present (Действиях, начавшихся в
прошлом и продолжающихся по настоящее время) + с глаголами состояния
He has worked as a salesman for 2 years
We have known her for 3 years
Actions which happened at an unstated time in the past. The action is more important than the
time (Действиях в неопределенный момент в прошлом. Действие важнее, чем время)
He has talked to Maria. (When? We don’t know. It isn’t important)
With «today», «this morning/afternoon/week», «so far», etc. when these periods of time are mot
finished at the time of speaking (Со словами «today», «this morning/afternoon/week», «so far» и
тд, когда эти периоды времени не закончены к моменту речи)
He has drunk 2 cups of coffee today. (It is still the same week)
For personal exchanges/changes which have happened (Личном опыте, переживаниях,
изменениях, которые произошли)
They have never had so much fun
Past actions which have a visible result in the present (Действиях, произошедших в прошлом, но
имеющих видимый результат в настоящем)
He is sad because he has loosed the game

7. Present Perfect

Time expressions: just, already, yet, for, since, ever,
never, etc.

8. Present Perfect Continuous

We use Present Perfect Continuous for (употребляется когда
речь идет о):
Actions started in the past and lasted for some time. It may still be
continuing, or have finished, but it has left a visible result in the present
(Действиях, начавшихся в прошлом и продолжающихся некоторое
время. Оно может еще длиться или быть завершено, но обязательно
иметь видимый, ощутимый результат)
His clothes are dirty because he has been repairing his car
Putting emphasis on the duration of an action which started in the past and
continues up to the present (Подчеркивании значения длительности
действия, которое началось в прошлом и продолжается до настоящего
времени)
We have been trying to find tickets for the concert for 3 weeks

9. Present Perfect Continuous

Time expressions: since, for, how long (to put
emphasis on duration – чтобы сделать акцент на
длительности действия)
