• Tetanus is a serious illness caused byClostridium bacteria.
3.
Transmission mechanism• The bacteria can enter the body through a deep cuts, like
those you might get from stepping on a nail, or through a
burn. There are cases of infection of newborn children when,
if the rules of asepsis are not followed, tetanus bacillus enters
the umbilical wound.
4.
Symptoms• One of the first signs of tetanus can be a dull
pulling pain at the injury site, even in an
already healed wound. The infection causes
painful tightening of the muscles, usually all
over the body. It can lead to "locking" of the
jaw. This makes it impossible to open your
mouth or swallow.
5.
Symptoms• At the height of the disease, tonic convulsions seize the
muscles of the trunk and limbs, with the exception of the
hands and feet. Tonic tension in the muscles persists almost
constantly, relaxation does not occur even in sleep.
6.
Treatment• Need to get treatment in a hospital. A vaccine
can prevent tetanus. Administration of a large
dose of tetanus serum or a specific
immunoglobulin. The wound through which
the infection occurred is punctured with
tetanus serum. Sedatives and narcotic drugs
are used to combat convulsive syndrome.
7.
Prevention• Vaccination is carried out in children from 3 months. Adults
should get a tetanus shot, or booster, every 10 years. If you
get a bad cut or burn, see your doctor - you may need a
booster. Immediate and proper wound care can prevent
tetanus infection.
