Where is MSU located
One of the oldest and largest classical
universities in Russia, one of the
centers of Russian science and
culture, located in Moscow. Since
1940, it has been named after Mikhail
Vasilyevich Lomonosov.

Moscow State University (from January
23, 1755 to 1917 – Imperial Moscow
University)(since 1940 it has been named
after Mikhail Vasilyevich Lomonosov) is
one of the oldest and largest classical
universities in Russia, one of the centers
of Russian science and culture, located in
Moscow. The decree on the establishment
of the university was signed by Empress
Elizabeth Petrovna on January 24, 1755.
Earlier, on January 12, on St. Tatiana’s
Day, Elizabeth Petrovna approved a
project on the establishment of Moscow
University.

The University includes 15 research institutes,
43 faculties, more than 300 departments and
seven branches (including six foreign ones - five
in the CIS countries and one in Slovenia).
