NW6000 – COMMISSIONING & APT PROCEDURECOMMISSIONING AFTER INSTALLATION - INTRODUCTION
Dockside commissioning of the NW6000 shall be performed after the installation and testing of the
unit has been completed.
It is necessary to demonstrate and verify the system functionality for dockside testing purposes.
The arrangements for the commissioning are normally coordinated between the Technician
(Company Representative that completed the Installation), Shipyard, and Owners Representative for
the ship. A time and gathering place shall be agreed upon.
Prior to beginning the commissioning procedure, a sample of downloaded data from the CM should
be performed. This data should represent the period immediately prior to commissioning and should
include information from all source sensors.

NW6000 – COMMISSIONING & APT PROCEDURECOMMISSIONING - INTRODUCTORY COMPONENT DESCRIPTION
Once the personnel have arrived for the commissioning, the technician should begin by illustrating the
location and mounting of the following components of the VDR:
1) Core Module
2) Bridge Control Unit
3) HSS/Float Free location
4) Microphone locations
5) DAQ modules

NW6000 – COMMISSIONING & APT PROCEDURECOMMISSIONING - DATA RETRIEVAL EXPLANATION
Discuss and show the following aspects of the VDR:
• Explain the 30 days recording and the 48 hrs in both capsules and how data is saved.
• Allow the VDR to record for the remainder of (dockside) testing.
• Demonstrate a download and how to play back.
• Make sure that each microphone is recorded by replaying a microphone test session.
• Explain that the OPT (operational performance test) has to be made frequently and demonstrate
how to perform this.
• Explain the differences between cautions and warnings.
• Leave one copy of all required doc’s on board

NW6000 – COMMISSIONING & APT PROCEDUREAPT - PREPARATION
Before performing the APT, reach out to [email protected] and ask for the previous APT report
and configuration files.
Please let the captain provide you all documents on board regarding the VDR.
Investigate these documents to see if there were any items changed or altered last year.
All outcomes of the APT test, should be written down in the Annual Performance Test Checklist – this
checklist is to be found on the extranet site or in the student hand out, as well in the training material.
Check the software version update the VDR first when needed!

NW6000 – COMMISSIONING & APT PROCEDUREAPT – PROCEDURE
Connect to VDR and make a little download from the core module (LTRM), on the BCU perform the mic/video and NMEA
tests in OPT and read out the outcome, all signals should be ok.
1)
2)
Check recordings on the 3 recording mediums that they have the required mandatory minimum content, read out
the start end times (min 48 hrs on FRM and FFRM, 720 hrs on SSD) on the BCU.
Download from each recording medium a short sample and verify in the playback.
3)
Inspect the audio, video and NMEA data from the downloaded content during the replay.
Rectify config on VDR & Playback side were needed. (5 min download)
4)
Unplug the mains power and check if the power caution (alarm) is appearing on the BCU.
5)
Leave the VDR running on batteries.
6)
After 2 hrs running on batteries verify that the BCU notifies that
recording has stopped.
7)
Reconnect the mains power.(system will not switch off!!)
8) Make a visual inspection and verify that all the serial numbers for the h/w are the same as on the last APT report.

9) With mains power restored:
a. Make a microphone 5 minute check with your voice mentioning name and location on each microphone, as
appearing in the configuration, be sure that the BNWAS is activated!
b. Perform a VHF test as well, proving that transmission and receiving msg’s are being recorded.
c. The data from this test will be required afterwards in order to send it to Seas of Solutions.
10) Fill the APT-Checklist-NW6000.
11) Make the required EPIRB test, use the Unidec or an equivalent instrument and send the transmission report (pdf) to us,
leave one copy on board (upload it with the data package).
TRON40VDRAIS new bracket:
12) Test the PT9 ninety, replace battery or beacon when needed, when so, take a photo from the replaced items as proof.
13) Perform a visual inspection, clean the surface from the TRON40 and renew the grease.

NW6000 – COMMISSIONING & APT PROCEDUREAPT – PROCEDURE
Always perform all steps which have to be made during the APT.
For example:
When the batteries are failing and you did not bring other new batteries on board, a follow up should
be arranged with new batteries and the outstanding battery test has to be done by a certified engineer.
When this is completed and the service report shown to Seas of Solutions B.V., the CoC can be made.
