History
Harvard Medical School was founded on September 19, 1782, after
President John Warren presented a report to the president and
researchers at Harvard College with plans for a medical school. It is the
third oldest medical school in the United States.
The founding members of Harvard Medical School were John Warren,
Benjamin Waterhouse, and Aaron Dexter.
The lectures were first held in the basement of the Harvard Hall and
then in Holden Chapel. Students did not pay tuition fees, but bought
tickets for five or six daily lectures. The first two students graduated in
1788.
After many relocations in 1906, the medical school consolidated its
current location in the Longwood Medical and Academic Zone.
